Teaching
In addition to performance, Graciela is an educator with experience choreographing or directing over 15 educational productions in elementary, secondary and collegiate settings. Her educational approach to dance training and theater performance is one that promotes artistic excellence, self awareness, and empathetic collaboration.
She was an artist in residence with D.C. Public Schools through the Arts Everywhere Program where she taught lesson plans that integrated literary and mathematical curriculum with drama, music, and dance. She was also a teaching assistant in Harvard's Project Zero initiative at D.C. Bilingual Public Charter School and provided programming through the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. She has taught at Imagination stage for six years and has served as a grant panelist for the DC CAH dance fellowship. She loves watching her student's confidence grow as they learn new skills and achieve their goals.
Whether she's teaching locking to 4 year olds, or Fosse to 40 year olds, her teaching philosophy is to challenge her students, give them the tools and support to succeed, and then step out of their way. Her instructional practice encourages a deep exploration of four core principles that build technique and strength, encourage creativity and perspective, and develop connection to the work and the ensemble.
